Layer Selection

The Layer Selection dialog is used to add, remove, reorder and rename the layers of a map window.

Map Files: The map files listed in the Map Files list are all the files listed in your Map Sources Manager.

Map Window: The layers in the Map Window list are the current map layers.

Add: Select one or multiple map files from the Map Files list and click Add to add them to the current map window. You can also double-click a layer in the map files list.

Layers will be inserted into the map window list in an order depending on their layer type and the existing set of layers. Text layers appear above a layer of any other type, while points layers appear above the first polyline layer, polylines layers above the first polygon layer and tile layers at the bottom.

By default, a layer is named the same as the map file you use to add the layer. If you add a map file multiple times, the layer name will automatically have an underscore ("_") and a number appended to the end of the layer name.

Remove: Select one or multiple map layers from the Map Window list and click Remove to remove them from the current map window. You can also double-click a layer in the Map Window list.

Move Up: Select a map layer in the Map Window list and click Move Up to move the layer up one position in the current map window. You can also click and drag layers up within the map window list.

Move Down: Select a map layer in the Map Window list and click Move Down to move the layer down one position in the current map window. You can also click and drag layers down within the map window list.

Edit Layer Name: Right-click a map layer from the Map Window list and click the Edit Layer Name option to open the Set Layer Name dialog. The layer name must be unique within the map layers.
