Publish Options

The Publish Options dialog is used to prepare your map for publication. Before you can publish your map, you need to set the Map Identifier. Use the Publish button to publish the map directly from this dialog or use the Publish button in the map window top bar.

The Publish Options dialog is divided in the following sections:

Main Options

Map Title

The Map Title is displayed in the CartoVista Viewer, in the title section at the top of the map.

Map Identifier

The Map Identifier is used to create a folder name in the output folder.

Type

Local: Publishes the map to a directory on your computer.

CartoVista Server - Web Portal: Publishes the map to your CartoVista Server. This option is only available if you have purchased the Portal Module for the CartoVista Publisher.

Output Folder

When the selected Type is Local, the Output Folder option is available. The Output Folder is the location where the map files are published. It contains all the files necessary to Deploy a CartoVista Map on a Web Server. Each map will have its own folder named according to the Map Identifier. By default, the directory is: C:\Users\Public\Documents\CartoVista5\HTML\<Map Identifier>. To specify a different folder, click the button beside the text box. The map can be published anywhere on your computer, with no dependencies to other files. Click Restore Default to reset the output folder to the default location.

Web Portal

When the selected Type is the CartoVista Server - Web Portal, the Web Portal option is available. Select the Web Portal of your choice in the drop-down list. The Web Portals listed here are the ones for which you have previously established a connection using the main program's Tools menu > Preferences dialog > CartoVista Server - Web Portal tab.

Published Files

Map: Publishes the map.

Map Config File: Publishes the map's Config.XML file.

Data: Publishes the map's thematic data.

Accessible Version: Publishes additional HTML files that present the map's thematic data in a plain table format suitable for screen readers. Each data table must have its accessibility property enabled in order for it to appear (see the Data tab of the Layer Properties for more information).

Publish Options

Overwrite HTML File: Overwrites the default HTML page. If this option is unchecked and a default HTML file already exists, a new one will not be created.

Open in Browser: Automatically shows the output result in your default Web browser each time you publish the map.

Create Portable Version (exe): Includes a small application along with the published files. This application can be used to view your map without deploying it on a server. After publishing the map, click Open HTML to reach the Map Folder.

Double-click the CartoVistaViewer.exe file to run the application locally.

You can stop and restart the application by using the following window. You can also copy and paste the URL address in your favorite Web browser.

License Key

A CartoVista Viewer deployment License Key is needed to view the maps in the CartoVista Viewer and to deploy them on the Portal Module of the CartoVista Server or on another Web server. You do not need a license key if you wish to create and view CartoVista maps on your local machine. However, a DEMO / EVALUATION VERSION watermark will be displayed on your map in the CartoVista Viewer.

Enter your deployment license key in the text box marked <Insert License Key Here>. Once you have hit enter, or moved the focus from the text box, a new line will be added to the list of license keys. If you have entered a valid license key, the domain that the key is registered for will be displayed in the Domain column. If the key is not valid, it will display Invalid License Key. A deployment license key is linked to the domain name for the Web server that the CartoVista map will be deployed on. If you have multiple domain names to support, a license key for each domain must be entered.

The CartoVista Publisher will remember the license keys you previously used and will automatically enter them for you when you create a new map. You can:

Edit Thumbnails

Thumbnails are used when publishing a map:

There are generated automatically from the current view and layers visible in the map window. You can Edit Thumbnails by clicking the Publish Options down arrow menu.

In the Edit Thumbnails dialog, you can configure the map you want to use for the thumbnail by adding a thematic analysis, changing the zoom level or displaying different layers. When you are ready, click Capture to set the Large Thumbnail, then switch top the Small Thumbnail and click Capture again.
