CartoVista Server 6.5 Highlights
The CartoVista Server is a great tool for hosting, showcasing and sharing maps with collaborators and clients alike.
We are excited to announce that version 6.5 includes a comprehensive server REST API which can be used to automate tasks such as live data updates. We continuously reach out to customers for their feedback to develop new functionality that makes it even better.
With your latest requests for easier access to common tasks and tighter controls on the user experience, we’re excited to share our latest release.

Brand New Tools for A More Streamlined Experience
CartoVista Server 6.5 is more streamlined, organized, and even has a few new and shiny features. In a nutshell, the release features:
- A new server REST API that can be used to create and update data from any system
- New folder organization system for maps, data, users, etc.
- New management interface of socio-demographic data through the data observatory.
- New management interface for API keys.
- A whole new way to browse linked maps, basemaps, data, server layers, etc.
- New addition to the login page if an administrator wishes to have a user agree to their terms and conditions.
- New properties for maps, data, users, etc.
New Server REST API
CartoVista is happy to announce the release a new REST API for the CartoVista Server with version 6.5. This new API has been developed with Swagger, an open-source software framework backed by a large ecosystem of tools that helps developers design, build, document, and consume RESTful web services. Using this framework, it is easy to use the API from any development environment that support HTTP Post calls. The API can be explored and tested online within the server itself using the swagger interface.
This new feature opens the door to powerful system automations and the capabilities to update and get information on demand from CartoVista data.
The API can be used to automate tasks such as:
• Creation of layers and data tables
• Update of layers and data tables
• Update of features and data
• Creation of end users
A New Way to Organize
Multiple improvements were made to the CartoVista Server to help users be more organized.
New Folders Section
Easily organize and browse your maps, data, users, etc. with folders.
A suitable interface for browsing
It is now easier to navigate sections and folders using the breadcrumb.
The search bar has been moved to the left to make it more prominent and easier to use.
New Links Tab
A new way to navigate the interconnections between maps, basemaps, data, server layers, etc.
Version 6.5 introduces the data observatory which allows to manage and create maps for the spatial analysis of socio-demographic data.
An Indispensable Tool for Municipalities
The observatory is a structured data manager to generate a large number of themes and maps.
This is where the dimensions that make up an observatory are regrouped such as years, geography, gender, or any other relevant data set.
This section is where the content of the maps and data that make up the observatory can be managed.
• Apply styles that are repeated between multiple variables.
• Manage the content and properties of the variables.
This section allows you to modify and manage the observatory’s global interface.
Several additions and enhancements to various facets of user properties have been made in version 6.5.
It is now possible to implement services of the CartoVista Server into external apps using anUser API Keys .
New User Agreement
Certain applications require that a user must accept their user agreement conditions in order to access their content. Version 6.5 of the CartoVista Server allows an administrator to add a custom user agreement textbox at the bottom of the login page.
It is now possible to inject code to the CartoVista Server to add certain external services such as Google Analytics or tracking scripts from your CRM platform.
